The President, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, has appointed Mr Michael Luguje as the new Director General of the Ghana Ports and Harbours Authority (GPHA).
Announcing this at a media briefing at the port, the Minister for Transport, Kwaku Ofori Asiamah, said the appointment came as a result of the President’s sacking of the former Director General, Mr Paul Ansah, some weeks ago.
He stated that the new D-G having worked at the port before moving to Nigeria would help the port to enhance its service and image.
Mr Asiamah said he hoped the staff will give him the support to perform, whilst he would in turn give them the supervisory role needed to move the port forward.
He, however, noted that the new D-G would act until his approval by the board of the authority.
For his part, Mr Luguje thanked the President for the opportunity given him to serve the nation.
He said he took up the challenge as a call to national duty, and promised to work and supervise the workers to make the port succeed and become one of the best in the world.
He said with the formidable team already at the port, he would ensure they work as a team and ensure that the welfare of workers is also given a priority.
Mr Luguje also said he wanted to see a workers union that was more constructive and productive and would support management to succeed.
