Ghana National Petroleum Corporation (GNPC) has opened admissions to students in the country to apply for scholarships for the 2017/2018 academic year.
GNPC is offering these scholarships, through its Foundation, to Ghanaian students offering degree courses that are attainable at accredited public and technical universities as well as polytechnics in the country.
The scholarships, according to a statement signed and issued last week Thursday by the state oil company, covers tuition, living expenses, book allowance and dissertation/project allowance for qualified students.
According to the statement, students’ qualification and general eligibility to qualify for the scholarship will include factors such as citizenship, whether or not if they have obtained admission to undertake undergraduate, masters or PhD programmes in any Ghanaian public university.
The statement pointed out that preference will be given to degree programmes in Science, Technology, Engineering & Mathematics (STEM); Environment, Health & Sanitation, Special Education and Agricultural Sciences since these areas are paramount to economic development and growth of the country.
Other important aspects will include women in engineering, brilliant and needy students, physically challenged as well as, oil and gas related courses and special education.
The statement noted that admissions were opened to the general public and will be closed by mid-September.
