Global Institute for Leadership and Capacity Building, a leadership training group, last week Friday honoured the Second Deputy Speaker of Parliament, Honourable Alban Kingsford Sumana Bagbin, with a Governance and Leadership Excellence Award.
According to the institute, the award was for Hon Bagbin’s contribution towards the sustenance of Ghana’s parliamentary democracy.
A citation accompanying the award read in part: ‘For over two decades you have been pivotal in preserving the heritage of Ghana’s Parliament and her political landscape as well.’
This, the citation pointed out, Hon Bagbin had done, by ‘demonstrating astuteness and acuity in governance and political leadership.’
‘Through your efforts, we have an enviable Parliament in the Sub-region that is equipped, structured and institutionalised to undertake its full legislative functions,’ the citation continued.
According to the citation, Hon Bagbin’s leadership qualities embody the early political founders’ virtues of hard work, dedication and service to the nation.
‘Your immense contribution to constitutional reforms, governance and politics as an experienced governance expert and politician and also the longest-serving parliamentarian in the 5th Parliament of the Republic is praiseworthy and highly estimable,’ the citation added.
In a brief remark, Hon Bagbin thanked the executives of Global Institute for Leadership and Capacity Building for the honour done him.
He assured them of his continuous service to the nation.
