Ghana Institute of Surveyors (GhlS) has inducted 174 newly qualified surveyors into their fold.
The newly qualified surveyors were inducted into the three divisions under the institute namely: Valuation & Estate Surveying, Quantity Surveying, and Land Surveying.
The 174 newly qualified surveyors were made up of: 72 Valuation & Estate Surveying, 47 Quantity Surveying, 49 Land Surveying and six (6) Technician members.
The induction ceremony took place at the main auditorium, Ghana Academy of Science and Arts in Accra.
Addressing the gathering, the President of the Institute, Mr Edwin Addo-Yeboah indicated that for the first time in the history of GhIS, the number of females have increased astronomically.
He explained 41 out of the 174 inductees there were females representing 23.6%. This Mr Addo-Yeboah claimed was a remarkable feat achieved by the institute.
According to him the country need more surveyors to lead the industrialisation drive of the nation.
“Currently the institute have a total of membership of 1,900 made up of: 665 -QS, 470 – LS and 765- V&ES including those we are inducting today. Saying the surveyor to client ratio (Ghana’s population of 25 million) is pecked at 1:15,000” he revealed.
Meanwhile, the Founder and President of Ashesi University, Dr Patrick Awuah, who was the guest speaker for the occasion has admonished members of the institute to be abreast with morden technology.
According to him the world is moving away from the old ways of getting things or job done to technological way of doing things hence the need for the institute the acquire new knowledge and tools/machines to enhance their work.
