Sweden-based Ghanaian footballer, Kwame Bonsu, will no longer serve the rest of his two-year prison sentence after a Swedish court dropped all charges of sexual assault that were served on him a year ago.
Bonsu, 23, who signed for Swedish club, Gafle, in 2015, was reported to the police by a Swedish national, Maria Magnusson, for sexually assaulting her at their residence when refusing to allow her go out.
Bonsu first met Maria, who later became his wife, in 2014 when he was playing for Swedish city of Mjölby but the latter framed the Ghanaian to dupe him, investigations by the court revealed.
Maria was reported to have connived with other family to serve as witnesses to her assault, which has cost him 11 months in jail. His club, Gafle, also terminated the contract of Bonsu for denting the image of the club.
It is however unclear whether Bonsu will be permitted to ply his trade in Sweden after his release.
