The Gender and Children Minister, Mrs. Cynthia Mamle Morrison and her son, Mr. Herbert Morrison Junior, are in for trouble of their lives as they have been challenged by the National Democratic Congress (NDC) over their eligibility to register for a voter’s ID Card.
The Gender and Children Minister’s son was busted today for lying about his residential status when the Agona West District Registration Review Committee (DRRC) held a hearing on challenged case at Agona Swedru the district capital today.
The Minister who through the aid of Registration Officer managed to secure her Voter ID card is said to be not out of the woods yet since the Agona West NDC is still on her heels to retrieve the Voter ID card issued to her at the just ended Voter registration.
The Agona West NDC has been able to render Mrs Mamle Morrison’s son ineligible to vote in the up-coming presidential and parliamentary elections after the District Registration Review Committee (DRRC) unanimously upheld the NDC’s position that the minister’s son was not ordinary resident of Yaabeim a suburbs of Agona Swedru in the Central region of Ghana.
Mr. Herbert Morrison who was the center of the controversy is said to have confessed before the panel that, cumulatively he has stayed in Yaabeim for less than 4months contrary to the position of the law to have stayed in an area for a total period of 12months to make one eligible.
For the sheer vigilance of the NDC’s political party agent, the Gender Minister’s son who does not qualify to register as a voter at Yaabeim under the laws of Ghana would have secure a Voter’s ID card to voter during the upcoming general elections.
