Minister for Sanitation and Water Resources, Madam Cecilia Abena Dapaah, has appealed to the Coalition of NGOs in the Water and Sanitation (CONIWAS) sector to furnish her outfit periodically with documented reports on its programmes and activities comprehensive analysis of the sector’s performance.
According to Madam Dapaah, her ministry hardly receives documented reports on the programmes and activities from the CONIWAS even though she hears the coalition are doing a lot in the communities.
The Sanitation and Water Resources Minister made the appealed at the opening ceremony of the 31st edition of the Mole Conference Series which is currently underway at the Hill View Guests Center-Abokobi, in the Ga East Municipal Assemble of the Greater Accra region.
The theme for the 31st edition of the annual conference is: “Prioritizing and Refocusing Sustainable WASH Services Delivery: Lessons from the COVID19 Pandemic”.
Madam Dapaah explained that well-documented reports on the coalition’s programmes and activities would help the ministry to do a comprehensive analysis of the sector’s performance.
“It is important to note that, although you are doing a lot in the communities, the ministry hardly receives documented reports on your programmes and your activities. I, therefore, wish to take this opportunity to kindly request that you provide us with such reports, as they would help in our comprehensive analysis of the sector’s performance.” She stated.
“I await the outcome of this conference and assure you that we will not hesitate to implement the resultant recommendations”. Madam Dapaah hinted.
The minister also assured members of the coalition that government, through her ministry, would not relent in its efforts at addressing the challenges in the sector. Saying, given the enormity and the urgency of the issues requiring attention, government cannot do it all alone, especially within the context of the SDG 6 targets and timeframe.
It is as a result of this that the Government would continue to extend a hand of partnership to NGOs/ CSOs, including the Development Partners, to support Government agenda in the sector.” She disclosed.
The annual Mole conference series is the biggest meeting platform where the “Apostles of WASH” meet to discuss national Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH) issues.
