FreshpakNWL Sea Lions Ladies Drop Points at Halifax

Elizabeth Owusua rescued a point for Sea Lions Ladies when the team played against Halifax Ladies at the TDC Park, as they tried to make grounds on the leading pack.

Having fallen behind to a 69th minute Halifax goal, it took the mercurial Owusuaa to earn a point for the Elmina Ladies as they avoided defeat in week 6 of the Freshpak Products sponsored league.

The results mean Sea Lions Ladies drop two more points in their chase against the Police Ladies who lead the southern zone of the National Women’s League.

The Ladies from Elmina played gallantly throughout the first half, creating many goal-scoring opportunities but when it came to the crunch they failed to capitalise. They, however fell behind against the run of play as Halifax Ladies capitalised on a defensive naivety to register the first goal of the afternoon in the 69th minute through Ernestina Tetteh.

Coach Eddie Williams sensing danger made some tactical changes to bolster the team’s midfield in an attempt to equalise.

With time running out, coach Williams kept shouting instructions from the touchline and hoping that her ladies will make the chances count. It eventually counted when with barely 8 minutes left Elizabeth Owusuaa acted fastest to prod home a rebound from close range after the Halifax goalkeeper had failed to make a one-time safe.

The away side heaped pressure on the host in an attempt to score a second but the team from Tema stood their ground and defended till the referee signalled for the end of the encounter.

The result leaves Sea Lions fourth on the league table, four points behind joint leaders, Lady Strikers and Police Ladies. In the northern zone, Ampem Darkoa Ladies continue to lead the table with 14 points with Prison Ladies 2 points behind in 2nd place.
