Fresh Trouble Looms …as group mounts pressure on Mahama and Ampofo to apologize to Ghanaians

Pressure group calling itself Defenders of Ghana’s Democracy (DGD) has taken a swipe at former President John Dramani Mahama and the National Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Mr Samuel Ofosu Ampofo for what the group described as conniving with other political actors to destroy Ghana’s fledgling peace and security under President Nana Addo-led New Patriotic Party (NPP) government.
At a crowded press conference held at the SSNIT Guest House in Accra yesterday, the leadership of DGD led by its convenor, Mr Adu Adarkwah Larbi condemned the recent unguided statement and uncultured behaviours of the two bigs shots of the NDC ostensibly to paint the ruling government black to the national community for political mischief.

Fuming with anger, the group mounted serious pressure on Mr Dramani Mahama and Mr Ampofo to immediately render unqualified apology to Ghanaians, particularly the Chairperson of Electoral Commission (EC) of Ghana and Chairman of National Peace Council and plead with forgiveness or else they would incur their wraft.

“Former President John Dramani Mahama and his NPP party leadership owe Ghanaians an unequivocal apology for planning to topple a legitimately instituted government. “Anything short of these demands would spring us into action to alliaviate the next line of action,” the group stressed.

Consequently, the group also charged Mr Dramani Mshams to also update the international community on the Ampofo controversial leaked audio, recent NDC intraparty gun shooting and killing of one person in its Ashanti Regional headquarters and other matters in indeed he is a statesman who thinks of Ghana first.

“We would also like Mr. Mahama Dramani to play the Ofosu Ampofo audio to international community for them to know the wicked plans of the NDC and its antecedents,” the group further stressed.

According to the group, the media democracy is undeniably a competition of ideas and struggle for power to rule, adding that “this intrinsic nature makes democracy and conflict inseparable twins.”

It stated that “What we have been able to do commendably as a naon is our by-parsan approach and determinaons to suppress the occurrence of conict in order to allow our mullt party democracy a chance to flourish flamboyantly.

“Mr. John Dramani Mahama, in his characteristics fashion, picked and chose when he sought to disgrace Ghana to the international community. Instead of being an Ambassador for the great strides the country is making in its bid to emancipate the country economically, Mr. Mahama chose to embark on a polical mission aimed at painting Ghana black to the outside world,” the group noted

The Ayawaso West Wuogon by-election, the group mentioned came with its attendant issues, matters it would not be prudent to mention once again since they are well known.

“As though he were suffering from a selecve illness or amnesia, candidate Mahama assembled the diplomatic corps in the country, showed them videos of what he termed as the atrocies incidental to the by-elecon held in the Ayawaso West Wuogon Constituency.

“Our collective offorts to suppress the occurrence of conflict in our body polics notwithstanding, various by-elecons, general elecons and even local elecons held in this country have recorded some degree of misunderstandings and clashes,” the group added

It said few of such manifestations worth mentioning here include the political violence recorded at Talensi, Akwatia and Chereponi by-elections and the politically motivated clashes at Agbogbloshie, Suame and the recent NDC’s intra-party shoong and killing of one person at its Ashan Regional Headquarters recently.

“We are, by this press event, asking Mr. Mahama to stop his hypocrisy by showing the atrocious crimes commi%ed against Ghanaians during the Talensi, Akwaa, Chereponi, Amenfi Central and Asawase by-elecons to the same peoplehe showcased that of Ayawaso West Wuogon skirmishes to.At Talensi, it was a normal Tuesday when that constuency was warming up for a ….. By-election,” it warned.

The group indicated that the poll started peacefully but before the elections would be overTalensi broke loose and pandemonium took over, saying that gunshots took over the atmosphere.

It mentioned that that there were incidents where the “Azorka boys” were able to cross a police barrier some meters to the NPP constituency office and fired bullets at NPP members, saying that “NPP members had to run helter-skelter. Many were rushed to the hospital with injuries.”

At Agbobloshie, the group pointed out that the Member of Paraliment (MP) for Ablekuma South Constituecy who doubles Minister of Communications was, Mrs Ursula Owusu Akuffo was touring the constituency to urge NPP supporters to register in a biometric registration exercise when she was attacked by heavily built men who were known followers of the Member of Paraliment (MP) for Odiodiodo Constituency, Nii Lante Vanderpuye.

The group lamed the female MP was slapped by these men, who held broken bottles, adding the thugs hurled stones at her whiles she run for cover in one of the shops around the area.

According to the  group, she sustained severe injuries to her face and other parts of her body.

Aside the election related conflits, it Indicated that there were also peaceful demonstraons such as “Kumepreko” and “Let My Vote Count” where Police brutalies resulted in the death of one person and the maiming of several others.

“As far as the good image of the Republic of Ghana is concerned, we the cizens ofthis country will not sit down and allow Mr. John Dramani Mahama to use one sided, falsed and dishonest analysis to stale the hard earned cordial relaonshipbetween Ghana and the diplomatic community,” it said

To this end, the group used this opportunity to also call on the leadership of the Church of Pentecost to, as a matter of urgency, ex communicate Mr. Samuel Ofosu Ampofo.

“One of the core values of the Church of Pentecost is Discipleship. The church trains believers to be like Christ. The emphasis is on holiness, righteousness, faithfulness, honesty, sincerity, humility, prayerfulness and the leading of disciplined and responsible lives,” it stressed.

The group was of the view that this is done at the level of individuals, where every member takes responsibility to discipline their new coverts, as well as through the church.

It said the NDC chairman He has dragged the name of the revered church into disrepute.

The group opined that Mr Ampofo does not deserve to hold any leadership position in any church since he carries himself as a saint in public but acts like a sibling of Lucifer in the dark
