Fix Aboaso-Ankaase road —Residents of Ankaase appeal

People of Ankaase and its environs have made a passionate appeal to the president and well-meaning citizens of the area to see to the construction of the road linking Aboaso to Ankaase since many lives were being lost due to the bad nature of the road network.

According to them, the bad nature of the road has made delivery of quality healthcare at the Methodist Faith Healing Hospital, the only referral facility serving about four districts, very difficult.

Assembly member for Ankaase, Andy Owusu, in a telephone conversation with Today, lamented that if the four-kilometre road was not worked on, the preventable deaths occurring at the facility and in the area would increase by the end of this year.

“What we are talking about is very urgent, but it’s unfortunate our several pleas for assistance have always fallen on deaf ears, but they shamefully come here during election periods and tell us they come from here and that we must vote for them and their political parties. They don’t care about the many lives that are being lost due to the bad nature of roads in this area.

“Early this year, a woman was in labour at Aboabogya and they had to bring her to Ankaase but sadly they had to use the Edwiratia road which is some hours drive because the short route road to this place is in such a deplorable state that it is unthinkable to drive on it, by the time they got to the hospital she was dead,” he recounted sadly.

He however, applauded the medical staff at the Methodist Faith Healing Hospital for what he described as “selfless and dedicated” services they render to the numerous patients who still go there for medical assistance.

Methodist Faith Healing Hospital, he noted, serves not only the Afigya Kwabre where it is actually situated, but also serves as a referral centre for people in Kwabre East, Sekyere South, Mamponteng and parts of Kumasi and has been of tremendous help to people in these areas in times past irrespective of the poor road network.

In the view of Mr Owusu, some notable personalities who hail from the area, have failed the present generation as they have not ‘made us know that they come from here.’

He mentioned names like former First Lady, Nana Konadu Agyemang-Rawlings, former Attorney General, Betty Mould Iddrisu, Minister of National Security, Albert Kan Dapaah, a leading member of the NPP, Dr. Amoako Tuffuor, among others as some of the people who hail from the area but have failed to help.
