Our farewell message to late Amissah-Arthur

THE passing away of H.E. former Vice President of the Republic of Ghana, Dr Kwesi Bekoe Amissah-Arthur, on June 29, 2018, came as a shock to millions of Ghanaians who were greeted with that sad news.

HE has been described as a fine gentleman of a politician, very affable, and more importantly, a very humane personality.

AS former Vice President, Dr Amissah-Arthur served mother Ghana diligently and with a sense of urgency.

HE was liked for the way he did his politics, completely different from the kind of rough politics that are being done in this country currently.

EVEN before his election to the second highest office in this country—Vice President—Dr Amissah-Arthur had served in a number of capacities including Governor of the Bank of Ghana (BoG).

THUS, there is no question about his patriotism and commitment to serving this country.

GHANA indeed has lost a gem, a hard working Ghanaian, who would have loved to do more for this country in the area of ensuring quality education, and also fashioning out policies to improve the lot of particularly ordinary Ghanaians.

FOR us at Weekend Today, Dr Amissah-Arthur’s death is a great loss not only to his immediate and external families but, more importantly, to the country.

THOUGH his legacies are enormous, a few that catch our attention are his nature of rising above partisan politics and parrying off political jabs diplomatically, both attributes which are missing in many of our politicians.

AN astute academician, Dr Amissah-Arthur would indeed be missed by those in the academia as well.

TO his lovely wife, Mrs Matilda Amissah-Arthur, their fine children and the entire external family, we pray that our good Lord will give them the fortitude to bear this painful and irreparable loss.

AND to the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), though it’s a huge loss to the party, we pray that you take consolation in the fact that the late Amissah-Arthur played his role well in the party and bequeathed to it legacies that can be built on.

AGAIN, we ask God to give the entire Amissah-Arthur family the strength and courage to be able to go through this trying moment.

AS we lay late Kwesi Bekoe Amissah-Arthur to rest today, Weekend Today asks God to keep him safe. Damirifa due, Kwesi Bekoe Amissah-Arthur!!!
