An HR expert and Managing Director of OML Africa, an international human resource consulting firm, Mrs. Anita Wiafe-Asinor, has revealed that effective and efficient Human Resource (HR) outfit with Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) is key to the growth of such enterprises.
According to her, most SMEs are not doing well years after it setup. This she maintained was due to weak, ineffective or nonfunctional HR departments with those setups.
Mrs. Anita Wiafe made this known at the launch of HR support services to assist SMEs dubbed ‘Deliver my Human Resource (HR)’ in Accra.
The services according to her are to help SMEs minimize the challenges of administrative overload and provide SMEs with the peace of mind to concentrate on their core business.
The MD of OML Africa explained that the product was designed to meet the needs of SMEs with little or no internal professional HR support or for small organizations where HR had just been attached to somebody’s job as a convenience.
She further noted that some of the HR challenges the “Deliver my HR” seek to cure are the high cost in employing a full HR personnel, filling the talent gap, identifying and retaining the right talent, finding a skilled workforce and not having in place good HR policies and structures.
”Deliver My HR” package for SMEs benefits include; an assigned dedicated, qualified HR professionals to fully run your day to day HR operations on and off-site, improved efficiency through HRMIS/ payroll issues, HR analytic to contribute to business decisions on human capital investments as well as flexible model offering both part-time and full-time support.

She therefore urged SMEs to partner them to provide professional HR support, contribute to business decisions on human capital investments and day-to-day HR operations.
In another development, Mr. Emmanuel Awumee, a Transport Management Consultant, has commended OML Africa for initiating the product to re-defined HR practices in SMEs.
According to him, human capital management was one of the major challenges faced by SMEs. “I have closed over five branch of my business because of the human capital factor, and I think this service will go a long way to help address some of the administrative challenges in the sector” he stated.
Mr Awumee said his outfit would engage the services of OML Africa to provide strategic HR support to minimize challenges of administrative overload and legislative compliance issues.
Meanwhile statistics available shows that the SME sector is the largest employer in every economy, but sector is faced with many challenges including the lack of effective human resource outfits which have curtailed its growth in recent years.
Again, recent research shows that about 70 per cent of organisations in Ghana do not have HR as a strategic partner, with 20 per cent of the remaining 30 per cent having their HR departments not working efficiently.
