The 19th edition of the Vodafone Ghana Music Awards held at the Accra International Conference Centre (AICC) on Saturday April 14, 2018 saw for the first time a female artiste, the late Ebony Reigns win the prestigious award, the ‘Artiste Of The Year’.
The late dancehall artiste born Priscilla Opoku Kwarteng also swept other awards including the Afro Pop song of the Year.
Father of the late songstress, Nana Poku Kwarteng who was at the event, received the award on behalf of his daughter, and thanked Ghanaians for voting for Ebony.
According to him, Ebony worked hard, and deserved to win more awards.
The night witnessed an all-star tribute to the late singer as Akosua Agyapong thrilled patrons with Ebony’s hit banger Hustle, while Lynx Entertainment signee Mzvee also performed couple of the late singer’s hit songs with Adina.
The ‘90’s badgyal’ as fans called her, will go straight in the history of Ghana music industry as being the first female musician to win Artistes of the Year and other enviable categories on the night.
