CRACKS IN NPP DEEPEN *As Bawumia,Alan fight to lead party in 2024

The seeming tension in the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) is gradually having a toll on the party,Today can report.

Apart from the alleged corrupt practices that occurred under the first term of Akufo-Addo’s administration, the jostling for the soul of the party in 2024 has reared its ugly head in the early days of the second term of the NPP’s rule.

The former presidential hopeful and the minister designate for Trade and Industry, Alan Kwadwo Kyeremanten is “ seriously in contention with Vice President Dr. Alhaji Mahamudu Bawumia on who leads the party in the 2024 elections after President Akufo-Addo ends his second term of office.

According to a source close to Alan’s camp, the fight for the supremacy of the party was necessitated by a circular they intercepted a week after the declaration of the 2020 election results.

In the said circular, the source who spoke to Today on the condition of anonymity alleged that, all acting MMDCEs were directed to work towards the promotion of Bawumia’s 2024 agenda.

The circular which was reported to have come from the office of the Chief of Staff further directed that every support must be given to Bawumia in all the regions and districts.

“It was against this backdrop that some of us started campaigning also for Alan on social media . In fact, i can confidently say without any shred of doubt that the said circular had the approval of the president”

The source added: We will not sit down and allow Bawumia who came yesterday to lead the party 2024. We will rather even prefer the party loses in the next elections than Bawumia leading the NPP”,our source averred.

Meanwhile our investigations show that all is not well with the Elephant family.

Some Ashantis in the government, our investigations further showed that are not happy with the promotion of Bawumia to lead NPP.

It was a result of the power that compelled the General Secretary of the NPP to caution the party’s bigwigs who have ambitions of leading the party as flagbgearer in the 2024 Presidential election not to distract the government’s second term agenda

But speaking Asempa which was monitored by Today John Boadu stressed that such internal jostling way ahead of time had the potential of adversely affecting the performance of government and will not be tolerated.

“Once the 2020 election is over and it’s common knowledge that President Akufo-Addo cannot run again, any person who has an ambition of becoming a flagbearer will shake himself up a bit for people to know that he has that interest. So we can understand that kind of movement but we’ll not take it beyond a certain level. Their activities will not be allowed to crowd out the work of government, no, that one we’ll not entertain it. Because we have a four-year mandate.”

“From the party’s calendar, even if we’ll elect a flagbearer it will be somewhere around December 2022, the middle of 2023, or even the ending of 2023. We can’t allow the jostling to start now, if we do, we’ll be destroying the government, and may cost us our resolve to ensure that this NPP government transit to another NPP government after the 2024 general elections and we are not going to allow that. The party will take a decision and make sure that we don’t allow such testing waters now. If we allow this Alan-Bawumia jostling to go on, how are we going to prosecute these necessary things that strengthen the party on the ground,” he asked?
