Church donates to orphanage

The Parish Youth Council of the Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church has donated items worth GHC 6000 to Potters Village Orphanage at Dodowa in the Greater Accra Region.

The donation formed part of the annual youth week celebration of the church.

The Youth President of the church, Mr. Peter Akwetey in an interview with Today explained that since Lent is about charity, penance and reflection, they decided to do an act of charity by making breakfast for the orphans and other items to help complete their new project.

“The church is there for spiritual needs of the people but not only that, we have to also take care of their physical needs. The children of Potters Village in the absence of their parents deserve our love and care every day and not only in this season of lent. They may not be our blood relatives, but they are our brothers and sisters in Christ and it is for this reason that we have taken it upon ourselves to present these items to them, with the support of the church”, he said.

Founder of the orphanage, Dr. Mrs. Jane Irina Adu, expressed appreciation towards the gesture and pleaded with the general public to come to their aid to complete “our building project.”

“I am very happy to know that you have decided to spend some time with us and donate to these children. As an orphanage we face lot of challenges, but our resolve to offer shelter to those who need it will never stop. This structure you see here is a rented space that goes for GHC 3000 yearly and already we owe in arrears of three years.

We are currently undertaking a construction project to ensure we have a permanent place but for the lack of funds the project has stopped, and so we are happy to know that aside the donation of items, you have also donated 50 bags of cement to help us continue with the project”, she said.
