A filling station manager at Maaban near Barekese in the Nwabiagya North District, Mr. Osei Antwi, has expressed worry at the series of robberies going on in the country, calling for a tightened security to curb the situation.
Speaking to journalists after his Goil filling station was robbed on Saturday and an amount of GH50,000 taken away by the robbers, Mr. Osei Antwi noted that doing business in the Maaban area has become perilous as robberies in the area is becoming one too many.
“Now people in this area feel unsafe doing business since it is very dangerous because you can be attacked anytime. Please we beg the president to equip police adequately to enable them combat crime here,” he appealed.
Mr. Osei Antwi further revealed that the assailants who had disconnected power amid heavy rains broke into two metal safes embedded in a concrete wall and got away with the said amount.
In addition, they took along an SB shotgun belonging to the deceased.
A CCTV recorder was also taken away from his office.
They however, did not only take away the money but also killed the security man on duty that rainy night. The 43-year-old security guard known as Kwaku Abora was survived by a wife and three children.
Apart from the filling station manager, residents in the area also say they are living in fear as activities of the robbers have risen there in recent times, hoping for an intervention from the police.
Meanwhile, the fuel station has since been shutdown while the police begin investigations.
The body of the deceased has since been deposited at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) for preservation and autopsy.
