The Sene District Police Command has arrested the leader of some irate youth who attacked the station and freed four suspects in custody.
Some 400 youth of Akyeremade in the Sene West District of the Brong Ahafo Region, on Monday, 15 May 2018, invaded the district police headquarters at Kwame Danso and allegedly assaulted two officers on duty and freed the four suspects in custody.
They then went to the house of the Gyaasehene and assaulted him and his family.
Speaking to Class News, Sene District Police Commander, Chief Inspector Nartey Dandy, said the incident began after the police arrested four suspects who had assaulted and destroyed bags of charcoal belonging to some Sissalas.
The police, on 11 May 2018, he narrated, received a complaint from the Sissalas in a farming and charcoal-producing village called Menko, that they had been attacked by some youth from Akyeremade who burned their 200 bags of charcoal.
The police on Monday, 14 May 2018, left for Akyeremade accompanied by the complainants and successfully arrested four suspects. After an hour, angry cudgel- and stone-wielding youth numbering about 400 attacked the police station, broke the cell and freed the four suspects.
They also assaulted the Gyaasehene and his family after the onslaught on the police.
Chief Inspector Dandy, however, noted that the police now have “enough men on the ground, so, we are working around the clock to apprehend the perpetrators.”
