An Assistant Coach of Cameroon’s senior female team, Bernadette Anong, has fired a stern warning to other teams participating in next month’s Africa Women’s Cup of Nations (AWCON) that her side was aiming to annex the trophy.
Though she described Group A, as the potential group of death, she quickly added that her side would not be in the tournament for the fun of it.
“We are not here to play for the sake of playing. Ghana knows Cameroon very well and we also know Ghana,” he said.
She disclosed that their priority was to top the group with maximum points and also progress all the way to the final.
“We are in the same group as Ghana and we know the strength of the Ghanaians and the fact that they are hosting, but we are not ready to place second we will do everything possible to top the group and possibly move on to win,” she confidently expressed.
Like Ghana, Cameroon has played second fiddle to Nigeria in the Africa’s women championship losing four times in previous finals.
Cameroon has been drawn in Group A along Ghana, Mali and Algeria in next month’s Total African Women’s Cup of Nations. Group B has favourites, Nigeria, South Africa, Kenya and Zambia.
The Indomitable Lioness will kick off their campaign on November 17, 2018 against Mali before subsequent games with Ghana and Algeria.
