The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has denied claims by Gender, Children and Social Protection Minister, Mrs. Cynthia Mamle Morrison that she and her son were challenged by agents of Agona West NDC because she is not an indigene of Agona.
According to the party, since the challenge of the Gender Minister who doubles as the New Patrotic Party (NPP) Member of Parliament (MP) for Agona West constituency for not being a resident of an area she claimed, there have been several failed attempts by the MP herself and her hirelings to create the impression that she was challenged for not being an indigene of Agona.
Speaking in an interview with this reporter, the NDC Constituency Communications Officer (CCO), Abdul-Wahab Africa Zion said it was most unfortunate and regrettable for the gender minister to make such wild claims especially in the face of unimpeachable facts and evidence of the basis of challenge.
“We wish to state unequivocally that, the NDC as a Social Democratic Party that believes in the egalitarian treatment of each person irrespective of their ethnicity, religion, and social status, educational, cultural or economic relations will never dabble in politics of ethnocentrism or any form of discrimination.” He noted.
The Agona West CCO maintained that the NDC believe in inclusive democracy as compared to the politics of exclusivity practiced by the NPP under President Akufo Addo which portends a present and future to our fledgling democracy.
According to Abdul-Wahab, his party is very satisfied with the works of the District Registration Review Committee (DRRC) to deny the Gender Minister’s son of voters ID card.
“More importantly, Let me assure our teeming supporters and those interested in our case against the NPP MP on the basis of not ordinarily resident in Wawase a suburbs of Agona Swedru that the NDC is not leaving any stone unturned but will still explore all options available to us including raising objections during the Voter Exhibition Exercise to retrieve the Voter ID of the Gender Minister as the decision of the DRRC further vindicates our long held position that the MP isn’t ordinarily resident in Wawase.” The Agona West CCO reiterated.
