The Electoral Commission (EC) of Ghana has begun nationwide pilot registration exercise and demonstration of its new registration equipment.
The Pilot Registration Exercise is currently ongoing at all the 16 regional offices of the commission.
A visit by our correspondent Franklin ASARE-DONKOH to the Greater Accra Regional Office of the Ghana’s electoral management body, revealed a very calmed atmosphere in the compound where the registration is taking even though there were heavy security personnel outside the build.
At the registration arena, few registrants who have come there to register were seated under a canopy waiting for their turn to go through the demonstration exercise.
Again we observed that all the safety protocol measures the commission promised to put in place were available. Seats were arranged to meet the mandatory one metre rule of social distancing between registrants.
There were veronica buckets, soaps, and tissues for proper hand-washing as well as hand sanitizers to disinfect the hand held equipment.
Speaking in an interview, the Greater Accra Regional Director of EC, Mr. Kwame Amoah explained that the demonstration was being done to test their readiness and the strength of their equipment ahead of the upcoming new voter registration.
