The 2016 Auditor General’s Report has indicted four revenue collectors of the Nsawam-Adoagyiri Municipal Assembly for stealing GH¢87,000 being revenue collected.
The development, according to the report should be blamed on the lack of supervision on the part of internal auditors.
Speaking at the on-going Public Accounts Committee (PAC) sitting in Ho in the Volta Regional capital yesterday, the Nsawam-Aduagyiri Municipal Finance Officer (MFO), Mr Yusif Asumadu said information available to him indicated the amount had been retrieved.
“I called the District Auditor to come and have a look at the monies that have been retrieved, unfortunately he could not come because he was preparing for this sitting,” he stated.
Mr. Asumadu was however not able to back his claim with documentary evidence.
The Chairman of PAC, Mr James Kludze Avedzi consequently directed the MFO to make available documents covering the recovery of the amount to the Auditor General’s department in a week’s time.
In a separate development, an Internal Auditor formerly with Upper West Akim District Assembly, Mr Christian Ofori was indicted in the 2015 AG report for allegedly stealing an official laptop.
According to the report, the officer took the computer upon his transfer to the Denkyembour District. The matter has since been reported to the police.
Appearing before PAC in Ho, the said officer explained the laptop developed a technical and was sent to Accra for repairs in 2016.
Consequently, chairman for the committee ordered him to keep the laptop and buy a new one for the assembly within one month.
