Assembly member for the Dome West Electoral Area, Hon. Benjamin Ayikai Okai, has bemoaned the increasing number of squatters at the Dome Railway Station in the Greater Accra Region.
According to him, his efforts with the Unit Committee members for the newly created electoral area over the last two years “have not been successful.”
“The squatters who consider themselves as paupers have ignored all passionate appeals to raise money to purchase logistics for clean-up exercises in the area,” he added.
He said the squatters prefer to use the rail line as place of convenience and the river as an alternative source to dump garbage.
He indicated that it was his hope that authorities in the municipality will attend to the situation to help the area become a safe and hygienic place for the residents.
“I have therefore petitioned the Abokobi Municipal Chief Executive, the member of Parliament for Dome-Kwabenya constituency, the presiding member, the Zonal Council Administrator and other responsible authorities to help curb the situation,” Hon. Okai said.
He further noted that all hands are needed on deck to forestall any calamities in the community.
The assembly member also assured of his commitment to the general wellbeing of residents of Dome.
“…I will do my best for the people of Dome West Electoral Area.”
He further assured that he is preparing to form a community development committee to enhance activities in the area.
